Ergonomics is one of the least understood aspects of laboratory safety.Laboratory staff have for years been used to working in ways that are unhealthy in the long term, and laboratory safety professionals are tasked with convincing them why changing is so important. As the laboratory workforce ages, the effects of an ergonomically poor workplace are becoming more and more apparent and it is costing labs money. This program will help participants understand the ergonomics regulations put in place over the past few years, and it will teach ways of explaining the reasons for these important practices to lab staff. The program details good ergonomic practice specifics for several laboratory sections in the clinical lab, pathology labs, and specimen collection areas.
At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss ergonomics regulations and regulatory agencies
- Review proper laboratory ergonomics practices in all areas of the lab.
- Describe a laboratory ergonomics assessment you can use
