Description
Although per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs; sometimes known as perfluorinated chemicals) have been used since the 1950s, they are being detected more and more frequently in water supplies throughout the country. Public health/environmental agencies and laboratories have been called upon to assess public health risk, but laboratory capability and capacity is currently somewhat limited.
Join this webinar to learn about:

  • how EPA developed their May 2016 perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) (two types of PFASs) health advisories
  • advice on implementing PFAS EPA drinking water method 537 in your laboratory, and
  • a case study that outlines how the Minnesota Public Health Laboratory modified a drinking water method and initiated biomonitoring studies to address a local PFAS issue

Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the EPA PFOA and PFOS health advisories and PFAS drinking water method 537
  • Discuss the practical aspects of applying laboratory capabilities to address an environmental health issue
