Each January, CLSI updates standards for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST). It is important for microbiology laboratories to incorporate the new recommendations into routine practice to optimize detection and reporting of antimicrobial resistance. In January 2017, the annual update of the M100 tables (CLSI document M100 | Performance Standards for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, 27th Edition) will publish. Some highlights for 2017 include additional suggestions for testing colistin/polymyxin B and poorly growing Staphylococcus aureus. To complement the webinar, an optional post program self-assessment will be provided that will allow individuals to assess their knowledge regarding the most important AST and reporting issues for 2017. Laboratories can use this feature to augment competency assessment requirements for their staff.
At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Identify the major changes found in the new CLSI M100-S2
- Develop a communication strategy for informing clinical staff of significant AST and reporting changes
- Design a strategy for implementing the new recommendations into laboratory practices
