Are throat cultures obsolete? Does one method fit all throat cultures? This program will focus on the major pathogens in the upper respiratory track, how to classify patients by risk, describe newer methods for diagnosing disease and pitfalls of relying on one methodology to make a diagnosis in all patients.
At the conclusion of this program, the participants will be able to:
- Define criteria for testing patients for upper respiratory tract infections.
- Define pre-test probability and its effect on reliable test reporting.
- Use case reports to illustrate pathogens in the upper respiratory tract.

This intermediate-level program is appropriate for laboratory professionals working in clinical and academic settings.
Continuing Education Credit:
The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program. Participants who successfully complete each program will be awarded 1.0 contact hours. P.A.C.E.® is accepted by all licensure states except Florida. APHL is a Florida approved CE provider; each course has been approved for 1.0 contact hours for Florida Laboratory Licensees.
To receive continuing education credit, you must view the program and complete the online evaluation by December 12, 2013.
