The 2012 APHL Annual Meeting and Sixth Government Environmental Laboratory Conference will be held at the Westin Seattle Hotel, Seattle, WA from May 20-23, 2012. It will consist of a member assembly, keynote session, plenary and breakout sessions, roundtables and exhibits all over the course of four days.
This year’s meeting will discuss issues ranging from environmental issues to emerging infectious diseases and emergency preparedness, from informatics to food safety, newborn screening and global health.
The Annual Meeting is the APHL membership meeting. Attendees include state, county, city and local public health lab directors, environmental and agricultural lab directors, senior laboratory staff, government and private laboratory personnel, and others interested in laboratory issues.
Advanced registration through APHL is required. It will open in January.
Registration Fee: $475/member, $595/Non-Member, $100/Student. Payment may be made by credit card or check.

Continuing Education Credits
APHL is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences through the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) P.A.C.E.® program. Attendees have the opportunity to earn up to 20.5 contact hours by attending the entire conference. Attendance rosters must be signed in each attended session that credit is requested for and the P.A.C.E.® certificate must be signed and certified by APHL staff at the registration booth at the end of your time at the conference.

The headquarters hotel is the Westin Seattle Hotel. It is located in downtown Seattle, Washington. It is located just blocks from the Pike Place Market, Space Needle and waterfront and is surrounded by numerous museums, restaurants and shops.
The conference room rate is $137.00/single or double (plus tax) per night. This is the federal per diem rate. Reservations may be made by calling 1.888.627.8513 or 206.728.1000. This rate is available two days before and after the meeting based
on availability. Be sure to mention you are attending the “APHL 2012 Annual Meeting” to receive this rate. Reservations must be made no later than April 16, 2012. This block may fill up quickly so be sure to make your reservation early. One night’s deposit is due when making a reservation but is refundable providing your cancellation is made more than 72 hours before check-in. There is a fee for early departure. Check-in is 3:00pm and check-out is Noon.
The meeting will begin on Sunday, May 20 at 8:30am and conclude on Wednesday, May 23 at 12:00pm. Please plan your arrival and departure times accordingly.
The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac) is serviced by all major airlines.
The Westin is approximately 14 miles (30 minutes depending on traffic) from the airport. The hotel does NOT offer complimentary shuttle service. The LINK Light Rail costs $2.75 and takes 40 minutes (www.soundtransit.com, 888.889.6368). The last stop, Westlake, is beneath Nordstroms, just 1.5 blocks from the Westin. The Downtown Airporter shuttle (855.566.3300, www.downtownairporter.com) costs $15 one way or $25 roundtrip. Taxis cost approximately $40.
